Online therapy in Northern Virginia
Frequently Asked Questions
Getting Started
How do I get started with therapy?
You can begin by scheduling a free consultation or by sending a message through the contact form. This initial step is a chance to ask questions, share what you’re looking for, and see if working together feels like a good fit. There’s no pressure to commit.
Do I need to know exactly what I want to work on before starting?
No. Many people begin therapy feeling overwhelmed, unsure where to start, or unclear about their goals. Part of the therapeutic process is clarifying what support looks like for you—at your pace.
Therapy & Approach
What can I expect from therapy at Yun Way Counseling?
Therapy is designed to feel collaborative, predictable, and paced around you. Sessions are structured yet flexible, focused on building practical skills while creating space to reflect and process. You won’t be rushed, labeled, or pushed before you’re ready.
What approaches do you use in therapy?
I blend psychodynamic exploration with a process-focused approach to help you understand the deeper “why” of your patterns while building the practical “how” of daily change. We work beyond surface symptoms to create a grounded, sustainable path toward clarity
What types of concerns do you work with?
I work with adults and adolescents navigating:
- Anxiety / Depression
- Life transitions
- PTSD/ Generational trauma
- ADHD and attention challenges
If you’re unsure whether your concerns are a good fit, the consultation call is a great place to explore that.
Telehealth & Location
Do you offer online therapy?
Yes. All sessions are provided through secure, HIPAA-compliant online therapy.
Where are you licensed to provide therapy?
I provide online therapy to clients located in Virginia. You must be physically located in Virginia at the time of your session.
Is online therapy effective?
Yes. Research shows that online therapy can be just as effective as in-person therapy for many concerns, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, and stress-related issues. Many clients also find online sessions accessible and comfortable.
Payment & Insurance
Do you accept insurance?
Yes! I am pleased to share that Yun Way Counseling will be an in-network provider with Aetna, CareFirst, Optum, Sentara, United Healthcare and Medicare B.
Do you offer out-of-network reimbursement?
I can provide a Superbill or documentation that you may submit to your insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement, depending on your plan.
What are your fees?
My fees are as follows:
Initial intake session (60–75 minutes): $170
Therapy session(50–60 minute): $130
What should I ask my insurance company to verify my benefits?
I recommend calling the member services number on the back of your insurance card and asking:
- Do I have outpatient mental health benefits?
- What is my copay or coinsurance for an in-network provider (for Aetna, CareFirst and Medicare)?
- If out-of-network, what is my deductible, and how much has been met this year?
- Do I need a prior authorization or a referral from my doctor?”
